Your writing should have a clear introduction, well-structured paragraphs, and a coherent conclusion. 3. Lexical Resource (Vocabulary):
This criterion assesses your range of vocabulary and your ability to use it accurately. To score well, demonstrate a varied and precise use of vocabulary, including both common and less common words. Show flexibility in using words and phrases to express your ideas and avoid repetition. Use collocations, idiomatic expressions, and academic vocabulary appropriately to enhance the quality of your writing.
4. Grammatical Range and Accuracy:
This criterion evaluates your control of grammar and sentence structure. To achieve a high score, demonstrate a wide range of grammatical structures accurately. Use complex sentences, relative clauses, conditionals, and other advanced grammatical forms to convey your ideas. Minimize grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement, verb tense consistency, and sentence formation.
Each criterion is assigned a band score from 0 to 9, and the scores are then averaged to give you an overall Writing band score. It’s important to note that the assessment criteria apply to both Task 1 and Task 2, although some criteria may be more prominent in one task than the other.
